Your public IP address identifies your computer or network on the Internet. If your computer is inside a Local Area Network, it will usually have a private IP address, which is only accessible within the LAN. In some cases, the computers inside a LAN will have their own public IP addresses, but that is uncommon. Most private networks have only one public IP address which all of the computers within the private network share. The network's router provides the capability of sharing one public IP address through a technology called Network Address Translation.
